Defaults for new renders

Applied whenever you start a render. You can still change anything per render.

Your files

The video you upload is deleted the moment its render finishes. Finished renders are deleted after 24 hours. Nothing is kept beyond that.

How it works

Most apps that make your video look old blend a pre-recorded picture of grain and scratches over the top. The same picture of grain, on every frame. It reads as dirt on glass in front of your video, because that is what it is.

FilmForge has no textures. Every mark is computed from your own footage, frame by frame, by modelling what the machine physically did to a picture.

Super 8

The grain in every frame is computed from your picture, so it boils and breathes the way film does instead of sitting on top of it like dust. The frame never holds perfectly still, because a real camera never did. Bright things glow the way film glows. And it moves with the cadence of real Super 8, not the smoothness of digital - calibrated against scans of actual film, not against someone's memory of it.

35mm

A different film entirely, and treated as one: far finer grain, a far steadier frame, and the crispness of a real negative scan rather than a soft "vintage" blur.

VHS

Tape smeared colour and kept brightness sharp, and that relationship is modelled rather than painted. Head-switching tear at the bottom of the frame, dropouts, tracking noise, and a timestamp drawn by a period character generator.

Digicam

An early-2000s pocket camera. Point it at a bright light and you get the tell-tale vertical streak an old CCD sensor makes, plus real compression rather than a painted-on block pattern, and the burned-in orange date.

This is an emulation

It has never been on film or tape, and it should not be sold as though it has.

Pricing

One render minute is one minute of finished video. Every look, every grade, the same rate.

Three things worth stating plainly

Every look and every grade is free to preview on your own footage, on every plan, forever. Nothing is hidden behind a tier to make you guess. What you pay for is the finished file.

Every format costs the same per minute. Super 8 takes about six times the computer time of VHS, and charging you for that would mean nobody could predict a bill. So we do not.

A failed render costs nothing. Credit is returned automatically. And re-rendering the same clip at different settings is free for a full 24 hours, on every plan - people review a render overnight, and changing your mind is the point of the tool.
